Today, U.S. Ambassador George Glass held his first meeting with Minister of National Defense João Gomes Cravinho. The Ambassador congratulated the Minister on his new position and pledged to work closely with him to further strengthen our security relationship. The Ambassador welcomed the Portuguese military’s active participation in important NATO, EU, and UN missions around the world. He also expressed the U.S. commitment to expanding our military ties through training, exercises, and exchanges. The Ambassador further reiterated the strategic importance of the Azores to our joint security.
