The XXI Iberian Model United Nations (IMUN) at CCB was honored with the presence of U.S. Ambassador Robert Sherman as keynote speaker. Ambassador Sherman took this opportunity to underline the importance of the UN. “What the UN has done – and continues to do – is critical. Not only has the UN intervened to keep the peace and prevent major humanitarian catastrophes, it has helped improve the lives of millions of people.” On the IMUN event, he added “To be among 350 of the best and brightest students, representing 11 countries and 20 schools from around Europe, Africa, and the Mideast, is an enormous privilege.” The Ambassador added that the interest shown by the participating students is essential to the resolution of global problems and that the diplomatic work is one of patience.
Ambassadors and representatives from several countries were present at the opening session, including Egypt and Israel, as well as the Education Division head from the Câmara de Sintra.
