Ambassador Sherman Supports Victims of Domestic Violence

The Ambassador addresses his guests at the fundraising event.

Ambassador Sherman and his wife Ms. Kim Sawyer hosted a black tie dinner and a silent auction at their residence to promote the support to the victims of domestic violence.
Embaixatriz Kim Sawyer stated that since she arrived in Portugal she has been focused on empowerment of women at different levels. She noted that domestic violence is something affecting American and Portuguese societies and is present regardless of background, class, or any other affiliation.  “It seems there’s a perception that what happens in the family stays in the family. But domestic violence is a public offense and must be dealt as such,” Ms. Sawyer said.  Ambassador Sherman stated that supporting victims of domestic violence and removing the barriers for victims to seek help is a very important cause and is a challenge, in different ways, globally.
This fundraiser along with other Embassy activities has sought to increase awareness and access to resources for victims of domestic violence.
This event included a remarkable performance by Katia Guerreiro who donated her talents in support of the evening.
