On September 16, Ambassador Robert Sherman paid an official visit to Vila Pouca de Aguiar, which is known as the nation’s granite capital. The Mayor of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Alberto Machado, wanted to acknowledge the Ambassador’s support of Portugal’s national soccer team during the Euro 2016 games and presented him with a granite table alluding the Portuguese team’s victory. Mayor Machado thanked Ambassador Sherman for helping to promote the region and the local economy.
After leaving Vila Pouca de Aguiar, the Ambassador proceeded to Marão tunnel, Portugal’s longest road tunnel with 5.6 km which opened to the traffic in the current year.
