John Williamson Speaks about Video Games and Education

John Williamson makes his presentation in the Azores.

At the invitation of the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon and in partnership with the American Corners Portugal network, John Williamson, an advocate for STEM education, visited Portugal to deliver a number of lectures on the use of video games and how they can keep students —especially girls and other underrepresented groups—interested in STEM subjects, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

John Williamson’s spoke to various audiences in Faro, Monsaraz, Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro and Ponta Delgada. Mr. Williamson met with students groups, the target audience of his talk “You can make your own video game.” “Using Video Games to Connect with Your Students” was the name of the speaking engagement Williamson had with teachers about the role videos can play in education. Each presentation was followed by an intense Q&A session.
