U.S. Representative Steve Scalise (Republican, Louisiana) is in Lisbon leading a bi-partisan delegation of nine members of Congress on a three day visit to Portugal. The delegation will meet with Embassy staff, parliamentary leaders, top government and private sector figures, and NATO personnel to discuss U.S.-Portugal cooperation on energy and defense and security issues.
Steve Scalise stated that “Portugal and the United States are strong allies and our two nations both hold a deep commitment to democratic values. We also share important goals regarding energy, economic development, defense and international security.” He added that he is “grateful for the opportunity to lead this delegation of my House of Representatives colleagues, and we look forward to working with our Portuguese partners to strengthen the friendship between our nations, and make our world safer and more prosperous.”
