Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Christina Sevilla stopped in Lisbon on February 2-4 to discuss the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). During her stay in Lisbon, Christina also participated in a roundtable to debate TTIP with academics and journalists, and met with Portuguese government officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, AICEP, and the Wine and Vine Institute.

Christina Sevilla visited SMEs in various sectors, such as clothing, apparel, shoes, and wine. According to the European Commission, SMEs make up 99.9% of Portugal’s businesses, and account for more than 80 percent of Portugal’s employment, compared to the EU average of 60 percent.

Christina Sevilla is involved in the preparation of the SME Chapter of TTIP, and departed on February 4 to participate in the T-TIP 8th Round of Negotiations in Brussels.
