On April 21, 2015 a group of 10-12th grade students of Avelar Brotero Secondary School, in Coimbra, visited the Embassy for a briefing on The Role of an Embassy to learn how a diplomatic mission functions. Public Affairs Officer Mark Pannell greeted them and briefly explained the role of the Office of Public Affairs while other Embassy officials presented brief overviews of their respective sections’ main tasks. The students and accompanying teachers were attentive and engaged, and asking questions primarily about studying in the United States.

At the end, all participants received a brochure about the Embassy and the Ambassador Residence, Facebook stickers, and an EJ about Studying in the USA. The teachers also received additional brochures, US Flags and Electronic Journals on a variety of topics to be part of the school library allowing both students and teachers to learn more about the USA.
