Ambassador George E. Glass received the Order of Infante D. Henrique from President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. This award honors achievements of an extraordinary nature and special relevance to Portugal. After being given the honor the Ambassador noted “I am humbled by such an award. This honor is recognition of the tremendous accomplishments we have made Side-by-Side. It has been a great privilege to serve my country and to work with the Portuguese government and people.”
This is not the first time Ambassador Glass has been recognized for his accomplishments. November 2019, Ambassador George Glass received the U.S. Department of State’s, Sue M. Cobb Award for Exemplary Diplomatic Service. This award is conferred to U.S. Ambassadors who have used their private sector leadership and management skills to make a significant impact on bilateral or multilateral relations in a manner that best reflects the Foreign Service commitment to advancing U.S. foreign policy through proactive diplomacy.
During the last three years, the U.S.-Portugal relationship has been strengthened in areas of defense through increase burden sharing at NATO, and by thwarting terrorists and drug traffickers. Our bonds have grown stronger with more students traveling to the United States; thereby creating a roadmap toward job creation, and mutual economic growth. The U.S. and Portugal have also worked together to protect our civil liberties and democratic foundations.
Ambassador Glass also noted “the special and enduring U.S.–Portugal relationship, not only remains steadfast, but it has grown and will continue to thrive.”
