U.S. Embassy Hosts Regional Meeting of American Ambassadors

Western Europe Chiefs of Mission Meeting in Lisbon.

On September 17 and 18, Ambassador George Glass and the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon hosted 15 U.S. Ambassadors and other high-level U.S. government officials at a Western Europe Chiefs of Mission Meeting.  The group discussed a range of issues, including strengthening the transatlantic Alliance, countering hybrid threats from Russia, and promoting European energy security.  Ambassador Glass welcomed his colleagues to Lisbon and emphasized how the meetings represented “an important opportunity to share information and experiences that will improve U.S. diplomatic efforts to further promote security and prosperity for the United States and our European partners.”

The guest speakers included President of the Eurogroup and Finance Minister Mario Centeno, as well as Director General-elect of the International Organization for Migration António Vitorino, with whom the Ambassadors discussed the European migration challenge.  From the United States, representatives from the National Security Council and the Departments of State, Energy, Defense, and Commerce also presented to the group.
