Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Update on Forest Fires in Madeira and North of Portugal

Lisbon emergency officials still report forest fires in some regions of the country, although the fires are being contained by Portuguese authorities.

The National Civil Protection Authority’s (NCPA) national emergency plan is still in effect and the current state of alert is yellow.

U.S. citizens contemplating visits to Portugal in the immediate future are advised to remain attentive to news reports throughout their stay and be prepared for road closures and detours.
