On January 14, 2021, the United States and Portugal held a specialized, virtual training led by the U.S. Department of Justice Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit and the U.S. Department of State.
The U.S. team collaborated with the over 100 members of dedicated prosecution and law enforcement units from Portugal’s Border and Immigration Service (SEF), Office of the General Prosecutor, and Federal Judicial Police (PJ).
These units play a critical role in comprehensive anti-trafficking efforts by Portugal.
The United States and Portugal exchanged subject matter expertise and best practices to improve the prosecution of human trafficking cases to further our bilateral cooperation on effectively combatting human trafficking – a crime that spans both national jurisdictions and international borders.
