The Festival Terras Sem Sombra celebrates the music, heritage, and biodiversity of the Alentejo region. In addition to more than a dozen classical music concerts, the festival includes master classes, thematic conferences, guided tours, and workshops. The festival started in January and ends in July. In its 15th year, the festival selected the United States as the nation of honor for 2019. As a result, the U.S. Embassy has recruited talented American artists to spotlight the diversity and excellence of U.S. contributions to the classical music genre.
The ensembles and locations include:
- Opening Concert: Spelman College Glee Club (Igreja Matriz de Vila de Frades, Vidigueira, January 26, 9:30pm)
- Delphi Trio (Igreja do Convento de S. Francisco, Beja, April 6, 9:30pm)
- Ellen Rabiner (Cine-teatro de Barrancos, June 8, 6:30pm)
- Closing Concert: Kronos Quartet (Castelo de Sines, July 6, 9:30pm)
