On December 11th and 12th, 2017 the U.S. Navy Destroyer, USS Ross, hosted U.S. Ambassador George Glass and his wife Mrs. Mary Glass as well as visits from high school and university students, and their teachers. USS Ross is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer (DDG 71) from the U.S. Navy and can operate in any threat environment and is capable of defeating hostile surface ships, submarines, and air forces simultaneously.
The USS Ross came to Lisbon to participate in celebrations for the 700th anniversary of the Portuguese Navy. This visit was also an opportunity to further strengthened U.S.-Portugal relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Europe. The ship’s presence in the North Atlantic is a demonstration of our continued commitment to the collective security of the European region.
The ship tours offered a great opportunity the students to practice and improve their technical English vocabulary and to see the new and advanced technologies inside this type of ship.
