Event: The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and the National Hurricane Center report that Hurricane Lorenzo will probably affect the Azores next week. Tropical-storm-force winds could arrive by Tuesday, October 1 with the storm center arriving early on Wednesday, October 2. IPMA projects that the western islands (Flores and Corvo) and central islands (Terceira, Faial, Pico, Sao Jorge, and Graciosa) will be most affected. IPMA is issuing daily updates at 12 noon Azores time.
